Ariella Markowitz is a writer, journalist, podcast producer, and musician based in Santa Cruz, California. She got her start making radio in high school, when the educational non-profit Transom blessed her hometown, Catalina Island, with a community workshop.
Since then, she’s worked as a reporter with KALW and KQED, reporting stories on the arts/culture, technology, and business beat.
Most recently, she was a staff producer with Pushkin Industries, where she reported an investigative podcast chronicling the rise of the online sports gambling business, hosted by Michael Lewis. She also produced Incubation, a science storytelling podcast chronicling how humanity ingeniously defeated the world’s most devious viruses.
As an audio freelancer, she produced branded content for Apple, Wonder Media Network, The Information, and UC Berkeley.
Ariella is also a versatile jazz pianist and composer, currently shredding as a member or an unnamed progressive jam band project. She plays bluegrass banjo for square dances and YouTube alike.
